Broker Update Email Q2

We'd like to share a few Curi updates about products and services designed to simplify things for you and your clients.

Let's Talk Dollars (And Change)

The Legacy Fund and Dividend Allocations

We’re committed to delivering all that you would expect of your insurance partner, and to exceeding those expectations with extras that you may not. Such extras include Member Dividends and The Legacy Fund.

  • The Legacy Fund total allocations since 2009 are now over $156.6m. Over the last five years, allocations to The Legacy Fund have averaged 8.5% of annual premium. This year, Curi declared a $2.5m allocation to The Legacy Fund accounts of Members associated with Medical Mutual Insurance Company of North Carolina active as of 12/31/23. Instead of quarterly installments, Legacy Fund allocations will now be apportioned to qualified accounts in two equal semi-annual installments (June 30th and December 31st).
  • Curi has paid out a cumulative $54.4 million in Member Dividends since 2008. Dividends have averaged 4.5% of Members’ annual premium over the last five years. This year, Curi is paying $6.4 million in dividends. Checks will be distributed beginning the week of June 17th.

The Legacy Fund Program Gets A New View

In previous years, an individual’s Legacy Fund allocation share was determined by the amount of the physician’s premium over the prior rolling three-year period as a percentage of the total premiums for all Legacy Fund participants for the same period. We're excited to announce that effective January 1, 2024, an individual’s Legacy Fund allocation share is determined by their premium from the prior year as a percentage of the total paid premiums for all Legacy Fund participants for the same period. We have a summary and overview flyer you can share with your clients.

Important EFT Draft Notice: Effective June '24

Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Update

We are in the process of transitioning our EFT process to our enhanced autopay program. June 2024 will be the last month Curi will use the EFT program. If clients would like to continue with an auto draft withdrawal of their premium, they will need to take action by setting up an account in our new payment platform.

Clients can complete AutoPay account setup by visiting Curi's Payment Portal and, using their Curi credentials, sign in under “Access Invoices and Manage Payments”. User guides are also available on the site for a step-by-step account setup review. There will be a zero balance and/or dashes for the premium amount due until their account has been transitioned off our EFT program.

Additional Resources:

  • EFT Client FAQs
  • AutoPay User Guide
  • Login User Guide
  • Wallet Set-Up User Guide

As part of our overall communication strategy, we are sending email notifications to the current EFT clients instructing them to complete the AutoPay process. Stickers with related information will be applied to the May and June draft statements and an informational flyer will be included in the mailing.

If your client has questions or needs additional information, please have them contact us at 984-884-3777 or via email at membersupport@curi.com. If you would like a list of your impacted clients, please contact your Curi Representative.

The four core services of the program include:

  • Clinician Peer Support – benefiting provider's wellbeing
  • Risk consultation – improving the processes
  • Communication assistance – strengthening relationships
  • Expert case review (when needed) – accelerating insights

Additional details will be available on curi.com in early July.

Doctors In The House

Meet the Curi Physician Advocates

Curi Member and Chief Medical Advisor, Dr. Carolyn Anctil

As part of her role with Curi, Carolyn promotes Curi’s Clinician Peer Support Program. She continues her work as an ER MD in Utah’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center and is the Director of Quality Utah Emergency Physicians. She is a graduate of Dartmouth Medical School.

Carolyn understands that physicians measure their intrinsic worth not by the thousands of times they were right, but the few times they were wrong. She is a fierce advocate for Clinician Peer Support. Hear more about this program from Dr. Anctil.

Senior Vice President, Physician Liaison, Dr. Damian McHugh

In this role, he advises Curi leadership on how the company can best meet doctors’ needs and priorities. Before joining Curi in early 2022, he practiced as an Emergency Physician for 21 years in Raleigh, NC. Dr. McHugh earned his medical degree from the Victoria University of Manchester Medical School, England, and pursued postgraduate training and certification in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine on both sides of the Atlantic, including at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a huge proponent for the mental health and well-being of physicians, Damian enjoys chatting with and meeting our members to see how he can further advocate for their needs. Read more from Dr. McHugh

If you have any questions or would like more information about any of these updates, please reach out to your Curi Broker Services Representative.
